For Jon Gnass, growing up in Alaska below the rugged Chugach Mountains was the beginning of his love affair in the outdoors. Jon's introduction to photography came much later. After enrolling in a high school photography class, he was hooked. "Photography has allowed me to share with others the beauty and splendor I capture on film."

Jon serendipitously stumbled into a career in photography after being asked by his brother, Jeff Gnass, a nationally acclaimed landscape photographer, to manage his burgeoning stock photo library. After nine years of learning the intricacies of the stock photo trade and having an insatiable desire to pursue his own photography career, Jon took up the camera full-time.

Marketed to a worldwide audience, Jon's images have graced many magazine, book and calendar covers and have appeared in Fortune 500 ads. Selected clients include:

A portfolio of Jon's photography is showcased in a 2004 postcard book: Tulips of the Northwest, published by The Globe Pequot Press, and portfolios of his work appeared in 2005 Oregon, Pacific Northwest and National Parks calendars, published by John F. Turner and Company. Brave Raven Books published Jon's first book in 2001, Spring Magic: The Tulips of Skagit Valley. His photography was also showcased in a 1997 and 1998 Portland Calendar, published by Browntrout Calendars.

Photography and photo/writing assignments include: Associated Oregon Industries, Bend Living, Energy Trust of Oregon, KC Publications, Mexico, Ski and VIA magazines. Jon also was a contributing columnist for Northern California Trails and The Bicycle Paper.

The quest for adventure and photography has taken Jon to the frigid heights of Mount McKinley in Alaska and by bicycle down the length of Baja, Mexico. Jon finished the 2010 six day Gore-tex TransRockies Run and has successfully run five 100-mile trail runs: 2008 Vermont 100, 2007 Tahoe Rim 100 in Nevada, 2002 Western States 100 in California, 2001 Wasatch Front in Utah and the 1995 Leadville Trail 100 in Colorado.
